Hi friends! Thanks for reading.
This week’s topic is inspired by my daughter’s endless fountain of hand-drawn pictures. May she never grow up. Praying it is helpful for your home as well as mine.
Please feel free to pick and choose what works for you in these companions. If that’s only saying the little-gy with your small one, that’s okay! You can scale these up or down for older/younger kids. Nevertheless, I hope you find these companions valuable.
Little-gy
God is full of beauty, ideas, and creativity.
He made me to be full of these, too.
The world he’s made for us can inspire us.
It also reminds me of God’s creativity and his glory.
I can use my creativity to make God’s world even more beautiful!
Little Moment:
Find a way to create something beautiful with your child this week
Some ideas:
Draw a picture, taking turns adding things to it
Bake a cake and decorate it with flair
Make a play dough/Lego/Magnatiles masterpiece together
Activity:
Read: Psalm 104:24
“How many are your works, Lord!
In wisdom you made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.” (NIV)
Try:
Pretend that you’ve been assigned to be God’s Creation Helper for a day.
Make your own “creation”! Get a blank piece of paper and design something new.
A plant, an animal, a fruit, a type of rock… it can be whatever you want.
Give it shape and color it just the way you want it
Give it a name, just like Adam did with the animals
Write down where you might find it and what it might feel, sound, taste, or smell like
Talk:
Take time to share your creations with each other!
Share each of the details of what you included, its name, and why you made it that way!
What do you love most about the thing that you made?
What is your favorite animal or plant that God has made? Why?
Feel free to share your own example, sharing what God created about that living thing that is so special and what it is you most enjoy about it.
God is creative. He shows us this element of who he is in all the beauty he has infused into his creation. The plants, animals, mountains, sea, and allllll the world around us reveals how he loves to create beautiful things and share them with us!
Discussion:
How do we know that God is creative?
God reveals his creativity in all his Creation and in the beautiful story that he has written and unfolded for us through history and recorded in the Bible.
God is an author, a designer, a painter, and a Creator!
Does God want us to share this aspect of who he is?
Yes! God is creative and he gives this gift to us, too! Even if we don’t feel like we are exceptionally creative, you don’t have to be an artist to think in a new way or to try to make something new.
In Genesis 2, God invites Adam to name all the creatures of the Earth. This is for ownership and authority, but it is also a way that God invites Adam into the process of creating!
Why do you think are we called to create new and beautiful things?
God is in the process now of making all things new, just like he’s making you new! He invites us into this redemptive work (making things that were bad become beautiful) in all areas of our life. We can use our creativity to make new and beautiful things here, on his created Earth. In doing this, we are working with God in his work of redeeming a broken world and restoring it back to the beautiful world that he created. We look forward to when he makes all things new again when Jesus returns! For now, we add a little beauty wherever we can.
